In
November 2011, Alex Fletcher was hired by the college to
take over for Ryan Murphy as Eco-guardian. for the
months of November, December, February and March*.. From
ecological recording and observation and reporting of
problems in the reserve to renovation work, he is on
call 24 hours a day in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. In
January 2012, Alex has done a degree in Human Ecology at
The College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. He and
Virginie Lavallee have worked for several years doing
sustainability consulting, and in the summer months run
an organic farm in Metchosin. They were both students at
Pearson College,and as divers, are very familiar with
Race Rocks and well qualified for the many roles as
"Keepers of the Rock".

During June and July, a student trained to handle the
