As Ryan said in his e-mail "he just doesn't learn"
Misery the elephant seal Background: In February 2009 the young male elephant seal that the former ER Guardian Mike Slater had named Misery because of his bad disposition came to our attention as a menace to the newborn Ninene. Although Ninene survived long enough to leave the island, the beating that she took from Misery was severe. We believe she was saved by Slash returning to Great Race Island and badly injuring Misery resulting in him staying away from the pup. See this file on the damage inflicted on Ninene.
Elephant seal Pup On February 7 of 2010, Ollie was born and in the second week he too became the object of aggression by Misery. Eventually, after three weeks, Ollie was dead and the bite marks on the back and the loud cries heard at night suggested that Misery was to blame.
And then what seems to be a repeat of last years behaviour. In the March 2nd daily log Ryan notes that Slash was on Great Race Island, mating with Bertha and Misery had had a fight with the old male Slash. The following pictures show the end result with the injuries sustained by Misery.
