This sighting is a first for Race Rocks Ecological reserve as far as we are aware. The breeding habitat of this guillemot is rocky shores, cliffs and islands on northern Atlantic coasts in eastern North America as far south as Maine, and in western Europe as far south as Ireland. It is a close cousin to our local Pigeon Guillemot, Pam Birley from England caught this pair on the remote camera 5 at Race Rocks and she writes "I watched the pair for a long time to make sure - the pic is not good but the best I could do at the distance and in damp conditions. They were perched on the north shore under the camera. I will have to watch out for them later." |
