  • a few ecotours went by today
  • Guy and Clarence came by for a fuel delivery, I needed to top up my big tank

Ecological

  • about 11 elephant seals today, 10 female, one young male
  • the elephants are blocking a goose off from its nest again, they seem to like the spot

So Much Fog

  • Water: A bit wavy, under a metre

Boats/Visitors

  • the middle of the day was nice so there were quite a few boats out
  • Guy stopped by today to get the big fuel tank

Ecological

  • Total of 9 female elephants and one young male
  • the geese I think are done laying eggs, but I’m not totally sure
  • it also looks like their might be some oyster catcher nests around, need to take a closer look

Other

  • the fog was pretty dense my fog horn was going off from 10pm last night to 7am this morning and again around 8-9 or 10am

Ecological

  • a couple of the female elephants were blocking off a goose from her nest and the goose was pretty upset but the elephant seals could not be bothered and stayed napping there for a while

  • a few ecotours went by today alone with a bunch of sailboats and fishing boats in this beautiful weather
  • also a few divers around the island

  • about 9 female elephants and one young male, they were all in and out of the water today

  • about 10 elephants all together, most female, one is a young male that is sticking around
  • I think the geese are done nesting now, I hope they are
  • The gulls are starting to build their nests but I don’t expect them to really start nesting for another few weeks

  • Guy, brought by a group of Lauras marine science students to do a transect study at low tide today

  • 9 female elephants, one of them I’m still not sure if its the pup or not and one more elephant that I am now sure is a young male

 

Tuesday

Boats/Visitors

  • many ecotours driving by today
  • no visitors today but I think guy is coming by tomorrow to help me fuel up the generator

Ecological

  • it looked like the sea otter was in the kelp bed again today, a bit hard to tell from here
  • one of the younger female elephant seals almost looks like one of the babies because of the colouring, but I’m not sure because she looks a bit big to be only 3 months old
  • also I think there is a young male on island, the nose looks a little protruded but not enough to be sure, it might just be a large female
