  • Had some friends come visit for a few hours today, so nice to see them
  • also plenty of ecotours cruising by

Ecological

  • seems like there is less sea lions that the other day
  • did not see any elephant seals today but i am sure there is some around

  • There were also some humpbacks swimming around today

Census October 26th

  • Visibility: 15 Miles
  • Wind:  0-15 SE
  • Sky: clear most of the day
  • Water: calm

Boats/Visitors

  • Had plenty of ecotours cruising by

Ecological

  • Not as many sea lions today, they might have peaked by now but last year they didn’t start leaving until mid november
  • there were a couple injured sea lions plus a dead one
  • only saw one elephant seal today but I’m sure the others are around
  • So many stellars, mostly on the outer rocks
  • there was also an eagle
  • haven’t seen the otter or any oyster catchers
  • also saw a few humpbacks out there (not included in census)

More Sunshine and Wind

  • Wind:  between 10-30 NW was blowing more earlier today and settled down in the evening
  • Sky: cloudy this morning, cleared up in the afternoon
  • Water: a bit rough

  • had some ecotours brave the wind and drive by

  • plenty of sea lions around still and the few elephant seals

Notes

  • had a lot of good solar input today, plan on running the generator tomorrow though so I can run the desalinator for a few more hours

October 23rd

Weather

  • Visibility: 15 Miles
  • Wind:  10-15 NE
  • Sky: pretty cloudy most of the day
  • Water: calm

Boats/Visitors

  • Had some ecotours drive by

Ecological

  • so many sea lions
  • 5 elephant seals scattered around
  • a gull with a broken wing
  • and some california gulls around
  • also saw the eagle again today

Notes

  • go to run the desalinator for awhile today, its been difficult to get to with all the sea lions around

October 22nd

  • Visibility: 10 Miles
  • Wind:  15-30 NW
  • Sky: cloudy but there was some sunshine today
  • Water: pretty rough with wind and waves

  • Had some ecotours go by

  • plenty of sea lions around along with the 5 female elephant seals

Big Waves

  • Wind:  0-15 SE
  • Sky: cloudy all day
  • Water: The swells were more than a metre today

  • Sea lions seem to be multiplying still and getting closer to the house
  • Saw a couple humpbacks out there again today

  • Had to the run generator for quite a while today but couldn’t run the desalinator because the sea lions would not move

  • Sky: Overcast
  • Water: calm, sort of, there was a bit of a swell out there

  • Kyle dropped off a food order and helped with some facility work other than that there were the usual ecotours

Ecological

  • More sea lions than last week
  • Same 5 elephant seals
  • a lot of birds, gulls, turnstones, oystercatchers, geese, cormorants and an eagle
  • Still not sure if the sea otter is out there, he is very hard to see from here

  • DnD was blasting today
  • The new generator is working great, just need more fuel

  • the sea lions have finally moved away from my house today and more off of the main island

  • its so windy and rainy, the island is pressure washing itself, desperately needed
