Facility Work:  More wood delivered this morning.  Starting front stairs.  Finishing touches on back railings. Touch up white painting around facility.

Back stairs nearly complete

Ecological Notes: 7 female elephant seals.
Elephant seal pups: 2 pups in water.
Visitors: 2
Facility Work: Walk around island to check geese nests.  Only a couple still nesting. Back stairs nearly complete. Started cleaning and stripping of fence by generator room.

Elephant seal pups: 3 pups and down the boat ramp.  One moving closer to the females.

Student’s marine biology class

Elephant seal pups:4 swimming close to boat ramp.

Pearson College: 14 students for the day doing marine biology class
Facility Work:  Stair construction continues. Food and supply delivery.

Molting female elephant seals

Elephant seals: Now 7 molting female elephant seals.  Move each day from the land to the water.
Elephant seal pups: 3 pups back and forth from water
Visitors: 2
Facility Work: More wood and supplies delivered for building the stairs.
Vessel Traffic:  1 pleasure craft

4 Elephant seal pups are swimming daily!

Elephant Seals:  Now 7 molting female elephant seals that spend their days sun bathing and/or swimming.
Elephant seal pups:4 and they are swimming daily.

New Back stairs

Facility work: The new stairs for Eco-guardians house are under construction this week. Wood and supplies have been delivered to the island and the work is moving ahead successfully. My good friend Colin Baird has joined me to tear down and rebuild the front and back deck and stairs.

 

Elephant seal females:  We now have 8 females on the island and the highest numbers to date. All have molted, molting or starting to molt.

 

Elephant seal pups: The 4 pups remain on the island, swimming daily.

Vessel Traffic: 1 PC boat.
