  • The oldest pup was in the water again today, I got some photos of her on the rocks near the water
  • another tagged female elephant seal showed up today could only make out the last 3 digits on the tag which were 019

Ecological

  • An adult female elephant seal showed up today and the oldest pup was relaxing on the jetty with the sea lions
  • also the juvenile male had blood on him, there may have been a couple small puncture wounds but nothing serious
  • it was a beautiful afternoon, a bit difficult counting with all the movement

  • Water: Waves 1-2 metres in the morning, 0 in the evening

  • a few boats went by today
  • had a couple visitors along with the two alumni that spent the night

Ecological

  • Both pups were by the jetty today, the older pup went in but the younger stayed close to the new female who is also by the jetty
  • the new female appears to be young still and she is tagged, there was mud on the tag so I’m not quite sure what the number was it was a green tag C-8?7

Tuesday

  • Sky: Mostly Cloudy
  • Water: Waves 1-2 metres

Boats/Visitors

  • a few boats went by today
  • Have a couple visitors on the island overnight and the guys working on the project by the student house came by today and finished up

Ecological

  • The elephants had some movement today, the juvenile male was chasing one of the pups until the big guy chased him off
  • plenty of pigeon guillemots around today

  • a few boats went by today

Ecological

  • The elephants haven’t moved around too much, the sea lions were in and out of the water because it did get pretty sunny this afternoon and I did see quite a few pigeon guillemots around today

  • The elephants didn’t move much today, the sea lions were playing around the water though

  • Ran the desalinator quite a bit today only had to run the generator for part of it so I feel like the solar power did  help

  • Saw quite a few boats today, tour boats, fishing boats and sailboats

  • Seems like the seals and sea lions spent most of the day either lazing in the sun or cooling off in the water, the gulls seem to be extra rowdy today, not sure why

Other

  • the batteries don’t seem to be taking in enough solar power, I find it odd that I still have to run the generator today even though its been very sunny for the past few days

  • Had the guys working on the project by the student house here today
  • Kyle came by with a student as well to show him around a bit
  • Had an ecotour and a couple fishing boats and a sailboat cruise by today as well

Ecological

  • Both pups still around this morning, the younger pup found a safe spot away from the males near the helicopter pad, so she did a bit of rock climbing to get there
  • also saw a few Killdeer birds around today

Monday

  • Water: pretty calm, a bit of chop

  • Some boats were cruising by today, fishing and ecotour

Ecological

  • The oldest pup is nowhere to be found today, she was near the boat shed last night and I have walked around the island a couple times today but I have not seen her anywhere
  • there is a fourth male elephant seal swimming around, he looks pretty young and I think he has been here before
  • The youngest pup has been trying to fend off the other males today
