  • I  had a couple visitors come from the college to take a little tour around the island

Ecological

  • Another mature female elephant seal showed up this morning, I am unsure if she is pregnant but I guess we will find out in a couple days

  • Kyle and Mike came by today to finish setting up the new inverter, next week they set up the new battery bank

Ecological

  • noticed another large male elephant seal out on middle rock, he’s been there for a little while now but I don’t see any other elephant seals out there

  • Water: Flat calm for the most part

Boats/Visitors

  • Kyle, Jeff and Jack came by to deliver more batteries and help get that big log off the jetty
  • a couple ecotours and fishing boats went by

Ecological

  • the elephant seals are all doing well
  • as are the sea lions

  • Having some problems uploading the photos, will try fix it tomorrow

  • haven’t seen any ecotours today

  • the elephant seals are all doing well
  • as are the sea lion

Notes

  • Spent some time in the lighthouse last night due to the tsunami warning
  • everything is all good here today though
  • this large log did wash up onto the jetty a couple days ago, not sure how we are going to move that

Another Male Elephant Seal

Ecological

  • Another large male elephant seal showed up today, he might’ve been the one that was here a couple weeks ago but he is the only new one since the pup has been born, he looks almost as large as the biggest male who has been sticking around mom and pup

  • The pup is getting so big, elephant seal pups are supposed to gain about 10 pounds a day

  • Water: Choppy less than a metre

  • The 6 day old pup is doing well
  • The other 5 elephant seals are doing well too
  • still quite a few sea lions around

Green-winged Teal

  • Water: Choppy about 1 metre

Boats/Visitors

  • a couple ecotours went by today

Ecological

  • The 4 day old pup is doing well
  • The largest male was on the other side of the lighthouse today but came “running” when he heard the mother yelling at one of the juveniles getting too close, the big guy came and chased him off so Springtide ecotours got a bit of show today
  • Also some Green-winged Teals today along with harlequins, oystercatchers and eagles

  • Kyle came by today to help me fuel the generator

Ecological

  • The pup seems to be doing well, the largest male is staying near the mom and pup and is chasing the 3 smaller males off when they get too close
  • There appears to be a small female sea lion, stellar by the colouring by the jetty that doesn’t appear to be doing too well

  • Water: choppy 1-2 metres

Boats/Visitors

  • Not much boat traffic, saw a couple helicopters though

Ecological

  • The pup born on tuesday is doing well
  • The larger male is keeping the smaller 3 males away from the mom and pup
  • still a few sea lions around
