Very Windy Today

  • Visibility: 5 Miles this morning then cleared to 15
  • Wind:  20-30 SE this morning but is now 10-15 NW
  • Sky: cloudy most of the day but the solar panels did get some sunlight
  • Water: pretty rough most of the day

Boats/Visitors

  • Some ecotours cruised by

Ecological

  • plenty of sea lions as usual and the 5 female elephant seals

 

Cold Seas

  • Wind:  0-15 NE
  • Sky: overcast all day
  • Water: flat but the current was moving

Boats/Visitors

  • Ecotours and fishing boats coming by today

Ecological

  • plenty of sea lions around not sure if the numbers have peaked yet
  • saw humpbacks again out the kitchen window, they’ve been around for awhile

Notes

  • The water sample the last couple days has shown a temperature of 9 degrees which is the lowest I’ve seen it in awhile
  • The generator is working nicely

Elephant Seals

  • Wind:  20-30 W this morning and switched to 0-5 N this evening
  • Sky: overcast throughout the day
  • Water: rough this morning and calmed down in the evening

  • Some ecotours came by today

Ecological

  • planty of sea lions along with 5 beautiful female elephant seals of varying sizes

  • Water: calm

  • some ecotours came by and I believe a coast guard boat

Ecological

  • plenty of sea lions around and those 3 female elephant seals

  • Looks like Coast Guard was doing something with the green buoy to the south of me

Windy Day

  • Water: very choppy, a lot of whitecaps out there

  • Had some ecotours come by today

Ecological

  • the 3 elephant seals and the sea lion with the neck band are still around
  • the majority of the sea lions are around the guest house

 

Foggy Today

  • Wind:  0-15 W
  • Sky: overcast all day, with some fog banks rolling in
  • Water: calm

  • the neck banded sea lion was by the guest house, pictures included

  • having a difficult time keeping the sea lions away from the generator room

Neck Banded Sea Lion

  • quite a few ecotours, saillboats and fishing boats around

  • sea lions seem to want to be more on the main rock, trying to keep them away from the house and the generator room
  • the three female elephant seals are still here

Rain!

  • Water: choppy no more than a 1 metre tall waves

  • some ecotours braved the wind and rain and came by

  • saw and eagle today for the first time in a while

  • So happy it is finally raining, makes it easier to pressure wash and clean the solar panels

Census Day

  • Had some visitors come by from Eagle Wing Tours

Ecological

  • The 3 female elephant seals are still here
  • Spotted some California Gulls today too

Notes

  • There was another sea lion with a band stuck around his neck, will alert DFO so they can come out here and help out the sea lion, the last pictures are of this sea lion
  • It was pointed out to me that I have not been including the sea otter in my census, I admit I have a hard time spotting him from here so I often forget about him
